Oh the damage a damaged drain pipe can do! It’s not enough that your bathroom will be out of commission, but now excavators will need to tear up your yard to access the pipe. We’re talking big ditches, piles of dirt and, in some cases, rerouting traffic.
It’s a massive and invasive undertaking. Fortunately, there’s a better way. A trenchless sewer line repair or replacement can fix your drain line with minimal disruption to your property.
How a Trenchless Sewer Line Repair Works
There are several methods of a trenchless repair.
-
Pipe bursting involves accessing the underground pipe through insertion and retrieval pits at either end of the pipe. The lead-end of the replacement pipe has a heavy, bullet-shaped “bursting head.” (Imagine a really long arrow.) A winch pulls the bursting head through the old pipe, breaking it apart while laying in the replacement.
-
Cured-in-place pipe lining creates a new pipe within the old pipe with a resin-saturated liner. A machine blows the liner through the pipe, even negotiating bends and taking the exact shape of the pipe. The liner cures in place, effectively rehabilitating the drainage pipe. The liner is a slightly smaller diameter of the pipe, but this will not impact performance.
The Benefits of a Trenchless Sewer Line Repair
A trenchless installation is often cheaper than the traditional method when you factor in the cost of repairing your landscaping, driveway, and roads. It’s also faster. We’re talking hours instead of days. And it’s more effective. Replacement pipes have a 50- to 100-year life expectancy. And they have fewer connections, which minimizes the possibility of leaks.
Unfortunately, the trenchless approach isn’t always possible depending on the situation. That’s why we’ll always conduct a thorough analysis of your drain line before committing to a method.
